Pattern

rnd 1: ch3, 13 dc into the first loop, join with ss.

rnd 2: ch3, 2dc in each dc, join with ss.

rnd 3: ch1, turn, *rsc in next dc, 2rsc in next dc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 4: ch4, turn, *2trc in next rsc, trc in next 2 rsc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 5: ch1, turn, *rsc in next 4 trc, 2rsc in next trc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

(Now measure the diameter. If it’s about 14-15 cm (5,5”-6”), let’s skip to rnd 10)

rnd 6: ch4, turn, *2trc in next rsc, trc in next 5 rsc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 7: ch1, turn, *rsc in next 7 trc, 2rsc in next trc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

(Now measure the diameter. If it’s about 14-15 cm (5,5”-6”), let’s skip to rnd 10)

rnd 8: ch4, turn, *2trc in next rsc, trc in next 8 rsc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 9: ch1, turn, *rsc in next 10 trc, 2rsc in next trc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

(Now measure the diameter. If it’s not yet 14-15 cm (5,5”-6”), continue the augmentations)

Place a marker (I use a safety pin horizontally ) to measure distance from this point

rnd 10: ch4, turn, trc in each rsc to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 11: ch1, turn, rsc in each trc to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

Repeat rnds 10-11 until the distance from marker it will be about 7cm (2,75”)

Now let’s begin the “variable heights band”:

rnd 1: ch4, turn, trc in each rsc for about 15cm (6”), then dc in next 2 rsc, hdc in next 2 rsc, sc in each rsc until 15 cm (6”) to the end of rnd, then hdc in next 2 rsc, dc in next 2 rsc, trc in each rsc until the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 2: ch1, turn, rsc in each trc to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 3: ch4, turn, trc in each rsc for about 17-18cm (7”), then dc in next 2 rsc, hdc in next 2 rsc, sc in each rsc until 17-18 cm (7”) to the end of rnd, then hdc in next 2 rsc, dc in next 2 rsc, trc in each rsc until the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 4: ch1, turn, rsc in each trc to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

(If the last 4 rounds already measure, in the “trc part” about 5cm (2”), then skip to rnd 7)

rnd 5: ch4, turn, trc in each rsc for about 20cm (7,75”-8”), then dc in next 2 rsc, hdc in next 2 rsc, sc in each rsc until 20cm (7,75”-8”) to the end of rnd, then hdc in next 2 rsc, dc in next 2 rsc, trc in each rsc until the end of rnd. Join with ss.

rnd 6: ch1, turn, rsc in each trc to the end of rnd. Join with ss.

Let’s begin the slit (from now on we won’t join end and beginning of rnds):

Ss for 12 cm (4,75”) to shift the slit position (from now on this point will be the beginning of the rnd).

Note for rnd 7: In the next rnd the augmentation will be every 11 sts, because the last augmentation was every 10 sts (rnd 9), but if in the first part you had skip some rnd or made some more (to reach the 15cm-6” diameter), take the number between your last augmentation and increase by one.

rnd 7: ch4, turn, *2trc in next rsc, trc in next 11 (see the note above) rsc*. Repeat  *…* to the end of rnd and continue in the ss, until the new end of round. Do not join.

rnd 8: ch1, turn, sc, rsc in each trc to the end of round until one st remain, sc in the last trc. Do not join.

rnd 9:  ch3, turn, dc in each rsc for about 30cm (11,75”), then trc in each rsc for about 20cm (7,75”-8”), then dc in each rsc for about 10cm (4”), then trc in each rsc until the end of rnd. Do not join.

rnd 10: ch1, turn, sc, rsc in each trc to the end of round until one st remain, sc in the last trc. Do not join.

rnd 11: ch3, turn, dc in each rsc for about 25cm (10”), then trc in each rsc for about 23cm (9”), then dc in each rsc for about 8cm (3,25”), then trc in each rsc until the end of rnd. Do not join.

rnd 12: ch1, turn, sc, rsc in each trc to the end of round until one st remain, sc in the last trc. Do not join.

(now  the slitted part it would be about 8-9 cm (3”-3,5”), if shorter let’s do another round making dc in each rsc, then another rnd like rnd 12)

rnd 13: Face side, crab stitch in each rsc.

Done!

    1. Hi! I used a bulky yarn and hook size 5mm (US H/8 ?), but the pattern is thinked to be usable with any yarn you have close at hand (except the first round, every measurement is in cm/inch so it doesn't depend on your size hook :-) )
      Hope I have been useful,
      Sara

  3. I recently recieved your lovely pattern and am a bit confused regarding the variable height band, are we creating 2 rounds as one, Once the sc's are complete do we start over from the TRC etc to the end of the rnd and then HDC,,,DC...TRC to end round 2 of 1,
